The sketch is divided horizontally into three parts; the lower register, evoking the architecture of the chapel in which the decoration is intended, is not embellished. The upper register represents the Flight into Egypt in a landscape where palm trees indicate the oriental character, Mary and Joseph are looking at the infant Jesus, while two angels flying above their heads. Downstairs, the Presentation in the Temple: the Virgin holding the child and presents Simeon, who recognizes in him the long-awaited Messiah. They are surrounded by numerous figures in tunics on the tiled steps of the temple and behind the pillars.
In December 1854 Léon Riesener is charged by the Department of the Seine to decorate the walls east and west of the chapel called Compassion or of Sorrows (third span left) of the Saint-Eustache church in Paris. On each narrow wall, Riesener painted two biblical scenes one above the other, separated by a text: on the west wall, the Presentation in the Temple and a stopover on the flight into Egypt of the Holy Family, separated from the inscription: "Your soul will be pierced by a sword." On the east wall, the Carrying of the Cross and the Crucifixion, with the text: "The Lord is my share."
Christ Jesus; Marie Sainte (Virgin, biblical character); Joseph (St); Simon or Simeon (said wise saint)

Which would be your preferred material?
We offer a range of various sizes and materials for every product. You can pick your preferred material and size between the preferences:
- Canvas print: The UV printed canvas material applied on a wood frame. A canvas generates the extra look of three-dimensionality. Your canvas print of your favorite artwork will let you turn your custom into a large artpiece. The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is easy to hang up your Canvas print without the use of additional wall-mounts. Canvas prints are suitable for any kind of wall in your house.
- Aluminium dibond print (metal): An Aluminium Dibond print is a print material with an outstanding depth effect. The Aluminium Dibond Print is the best introduction to fine art reproductions on alu. The white & bright sections of the original work of art shimmer with a silk gloss but without any glare.
- Acrylic glass print: The acrylic glass print, often named a UV print on plexiglass, transforms your favorite original artwork into wall decoration. The real glass coating protects your chosen fine art print against light and external influences for many years to come.
- Poster (canvas material): The Artprinta poster is a printed canvas with a slightly roughened surface finish. It is perfectly qualified for placing the art print with the help of a custom-made frame. Please note, that depending on the size of the poster print we add a white margin of approximately 2-6cm round about the work of art, which facilitates the framing with a custom frame.
