Jacques Charlier, who was a pupil of François Boucher, has frequently inspired the works of his master (see Lemoine-Bouchard, Nathalie, "Miniatures", Paris-Musées, 2002 p.60). This composition is copied from the "Venus supported in a column, a heart in the left hand" of Boucher, engraved by Demarteau. Venus has the same pose, the background is trimmed bushes and an angel appears to the left in the clouds. The face of the goddess drift, meanwhile, the "Visit of Venus to Vulcan" also Boucher (London, Wallace Collection, inv. P429). An identical version, a few flowers around, this miniature, also attributed to Jacques Charlier, is kept in London at the Wallace Collection (inv. M52).
