The town hall of the 9th district occupies the building was built from 1748 to 1752 for the farmer general of Augny by architect Briseux. It was acquired by the en1829 Aguado banker, who set up his famous collection of paintings. In 1849, the city of Paris bought it to install the 2nd borough hall, which became the 9th district in 1860.L'œuvre is part of a set of 36 paintings commissioned by Alfred Binant a dozen artists, representing the major events of the siege. Executed very quickly, the paintings were exhibited at the Durand-Ruel gallery at the end of 1871.
