Supplemental information by the museum (© - by The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)
The Virgin nurses her son as they sit in a landscape of gently rolling hills. This small, readily transportable image, intended for private devotion, would have served as a reminder to its viewer of Mary’s compassionate love of Christ. Paintings of the Virgin and Child like the Lehman picture were extremely popular in the early- to mid-sixteenth century and production was localized in major artistic centers like Antwerp. This composition is especially close to others associated with the Female Half-Lengths group, including the Virgin and Child also in the Lehman Collection (1975.1.123).

Get your favorite material
The product dropdown menu ofers you the opportunity to select your individual material and size. That is why, we allow you to choose among the following options:
- Aluminium print (aluminium dibond): These are metal prints on aluminium dibond with an impressive effect of depth - for a modern impression and non-reflective surface. For the Direct Aluminium Dibond option, we print your chosen work of art right onto the surface of the aluminum material. The bright & white parts of the artwork shimmer with a silky gloss but without the glow. The print on aluminium is the most popular entry-level product and is a truly modern way to display art reproductions, as it draws attention on the artwork.
- Acrylic glass print: The print on acrylic glass, often denoted as a plexiglass print, transforms your favorite original into beautiful home decoration. The artwork is printed with the help of modern UV direct printing technology. The special effect of this are sharp, rich colors. The major upside of a plexiglass fine art copy is that contrasts and minor image details become more visible with the help of the very subtle tonal gradation in the print. The plexiglass protects your selected art print against sunlight and external influences for many years to come.
- Poster print on canvas material: Our poster print is a printed sheet of flat cotton canvas with a slight surface finish. Please bear in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin between 2-6 cm around the artwork to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
- Canvas print: The printed canvas, not to be confused with a real canvas painting, is an image printed from a UV direct printer. In addition to that, a canvas produces a cosy and appealing effect. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, meaning that it is easy and straightforward to hang your Canvas print without the help of any wall-mounts. Therefore, canvas prints are suited for all kinds of walls.
