The tradition attached to this picture book a name: the Duchess of Beaufort. This would be a young woman of great painted English nobility, no doubt, during a stay in Paris, but we do not have further details about his life and personality. This identification remains uncertain. There are several autograph replicas and anonymous copies of this portrait whose titles evoke other identifications of the model (see Burollet, Therese, 2004 p.192-193).
