This painting, which is part of a series of four paintings on the theme "The Arts under the influence of love", is an allegory of painting. The Flemish painter is represented in his studio before a large painting in progress, the "Saint Martin sharing his cloak with a beggar," his palette and brushes in hand. A young woman comes to distract him from his work. In the vein of Troubadour painting, the painter describes every detail of the shop carefully: the sword of court and the cat on a chair on the left, the bed and the curtains at the back, the clothes of the young Van Dyck.
This painting is part of a series of four paintings on the theme "The Arts under the influence of love" which represented the allegories of Painting, Music, Sculpture and Poetry, as historical anecdotes between 1814 and 1822. Ducis in painted several versions, especially for King Charles X and to the Duchess of Berry. The choice of Van Dyck for "Painting" shows the popularity of Flemish art of the seventeenth century with painters of this generation.

Materials our customers can choose from
We offer a range of different sizes and materials for every product. You can choose among the following product customization options:
- Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating on top): The acrylic glass print, often named a print on plexiglass, will convert an artwork into beautiful décor. In addition, the acrylic glass print forms a good alternative to aluminium or canvas fine art prints. The work of art is being manufactured with the help of state-of-the-art UV direct print technology. The major upside of an acrylic glass fine art copy is that sharp contrasts plus granular artwork details become exposed with the help of the very subtle tonal gradation. Our plexiglass protects your selected fine art print against sunlight and external influences for many years to come.
- Canvas print: A canvas direct print is a printed cotton canvas mounted on a wood stretcher. Your canvas of this work of art will give you the chance to turn your own fine art print into a large collection piece like you would see in a gallery. Canvas Prints have the advantage of being low in weight, meaning that it is easy and straightforward to hang up your Canvas print without additional wall-mounts. Because of thatcanvas prints are suited for any type of wall.
- Poster on canvas material: A poster is a printed canvas paper with a slightly roughened texture on the surface, which reminds the original version of the artwork. Please keep in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster we add a white margin between 2-6cm round about the print to facilitate the framing.
- Aluminium dibond print: This is a metal print made on aluminium dibond with an impressive depth. Its non-reflective surface structure make a contemporary look. For your Aluminium Dibond print, we print the selected artwork on the surface of the white-primed aluminum composite. The white and bright parts of the artwork shine with a silk gloss, however without glow. The direct UV print on aluminium is one of the most demanded entry-level products and is an extremely contemporary way to showcase art reproductions, as it draws focus on the image.
