Gauermann was not a passionate hunter, but he was happy to take part in hunting parties, as they provided him with many ideas and motifs for his paintings. He has not so much held the "heroic" act of this entertainment, but its consequences: on a chariot drawn by two oxen carts a hunted deer with magnificent antlers is transported into the valley. Just one is about to cross a small stream, demanded that both the truck driver and the dog most attention. By moving, broad brush stroke, the situation is immediately described, which makes it look more documentary than telling. It is in this view a sketch for a wooden image whose whereabouts are now unknown. [Sabine Grabner 8/2009]

Friedrich August Mathias Gauermann was a painter, whose style can be classified as Realism. The painter was born in the year 1807 in Miesbach in Wiener Neustadt and deceased at the age of 55 in the year 1862.
