Head of an Old Woman
Transparent, translucent, opaque This is how my life has gone, a blur Of unknowing, dumb luck, mistakes
I never had a say, my narrow path cut For me at birth and still, above me only Pure, clean, space illuminates my eyes
Softens the planes of my face. What You see: Girl. Woman. Old woman Inside, without the mirror of your eyes
I stayed the same, only the frame Changed. I used to be a family, but the Men are gone. No more suckling, no
Huddling in winter’s depths around a fire Sewing, darning, murmuring stories into Each others’ tired ears, gone the days
Of labor and of love. Now I sit, waiting To be captured by this artist who thinks He knows my name, but I am hiding
In stark folds of linen at my neck, in Scalding tea, a lover’s tender skin, slick Blood of stillbirth, simple gesture a
Hand makes. From joy to rage, despair Etched into places he cannot see, into Things I have not done—read a book
Traveled to another city, birthed Another woman, had my say Arc of my life flattened across time
And space. Kitchen to bedroom Hearth to field, father to husband Husband to grace. Alone as dark looms
Light comes, transparent, translucent Opaque. The little death sleep makes No matter. All falls away with age © 2014 Karen Holden

- The poster print on canvas material: The Artprinta poster print is a UV printed canvas with a nice finish on the surface. The printed poster is ideally qualified for putting the art copy with the help of a customized frame. Please note, that depending on the size of the poster print we add a white margin of around 2-6cm round about the artwork, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
- The canvas print: The UV printed canvas stretched on a wood frame. A canvas generates a special look of three-dimensionality. A canvas of this work of art will let you turn your fine art print into a large work of art. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, which means that it is quite simple to hang your Canvas print without extra wall-mounts. That is why, canvas prints are suited for any kind of wall.
- Metal print (aluminium dibond): An Aluminium Dibond print is a material with an impressive effect of depth. For your Aluminium Dibond option, we print your artwork onto the aluminium surface. The white & bright parts of the artwork shine with a silky gloss, however without any glare. This print on Aluminum Dibond is the most popular entry-level product and is a truly sophisticated way to showcase fine art prints, as it draws attention on the whole artwork.
- Acrylic glass print: A glossy acrylic glass print, often labelled as a UV print on plexiglass, will transform an original artwork into décor. Above all, the acrylic glass fine art print offers a viable alternative option to aluminium and canvas fine art replicas.
