Edvard Munch is one of the forerunners of modernism in the 20th century. His impulsive acting inking was exemplary for the artists of Expressionism. Munch's works stand out in the psychologizing of human states of being. Their origin have in the overshadowed by tragic deaths Biography Munch and in his friendship with the Bohème in Christiania (now Oslo). Munch's Bathers precede a larger version of the theme, representing the ages of man in the middle picture. The conscious sketchy of the artist, his alternate between impasto and watercolor way using oil paint to convey emotion. No impression of a landscape is given here, nor a literary narrative symbolism. The affective sensation of color and color contrasts, the compositional effect of the painting are synonymous with the virility of the male nudes.
