The tambourine held by the model and the soaring clothing indicate that it must be the portrait of an actress or more likely a dancer. The late nineteenth century wanted to recognize in this work the portrait of Marie-Anne Cupis, called Mademoiselle Camargo, which is impossible because the illustrious dancer died in 1770 and it was painted around 1785-1786. This portrait could, for cons, be that of Miss Anna Heinel, famous dancer of the Opera. kinship traits we find in fact and expression with his portrait painted by Michel Vincent Brandoin and engraved in London in 1772 by Proud ( "Miss Heinel in the Character of a Sultana"). However, the large ribbons of nuts hat stitched flowers, ephemeral Parisian fashion of the 1780s, hardly corresponds to the role of dancer and contrasts with the tambourine. It is not excluded that this suit is simply a kind of disguise like painters loved to use to dress up their models and to spice up their female portraits. The face of this young woman also reminiscent of Suzanne Marie-Françoise Vigee, portrayed by Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun, his sister-in 1785 (private collection). Table of Cognac-Jay museum could be a second portrait of Suzanne Marie-Françoise Vigee that, participating in musical evenings organized by Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun and friends, during which she showed very good at singing and art dramatic, would be represented in the character of an actress and a musician (see Burollet, Therese, 2004 p.303).
