General information from the museum (© Copyright - by Slovak National Gallery - Slovak National Gallery)

So-called catafalque portraits are a peculiarity of 16th and 17th century Hungarian painting. The nobility relished the opportunity to stage splendid funeral marches and the portraits served as reminders of the deceased's appearance for the mourners, including family members who were late for the actual ceremony. These artworks now serve as a source of historical research (since they often include written details and dates), and they also offer a view into contemporary dress and furnishings of aristocratic homes, depending on the social status or wealth of the deceased. But they are much less reliable when it comes to the actual appearance of the deceased. Since they were often painted during the latter's life, sometimes during youth, these portraits strongly adhere to type and idealisation.Text: Dušan BuranLiterature: Nestex : impermanent slovak national gallery exhibition. What material do you like most?

In the product dropdown lists you can pick your favorite material and size. In order match your personal requirements perfectly, you can choose among the following product customization options:

  • Aluminium dibond (metal print): An Aluminium Dibond print is a print material with an outstanding effect of depth, creating a contemporary look throuch a surface structure, which is not reflective. The bright & white parts of the original artwork shimmer with a silk gloss but without any glow. The colors of the print are bright and luminous, fine details are clear and crisp, and you can notice a matte appearance of the fine art print.
  • Acrylic glass print: An acrylic glass print, which is sometimes denoted as a UV print on plexiglass, will transform an artwork into great décor and forms a good alternative to canvas and aluminidum dibond art prints. Your work of art is being manufactured with modern UV direct print machines. The great upside of a plexiglass art print is that contrasts as well as small artwork details will be more recognizeable due to the granular tonal gradation. Our plexiglass with real glass coating protects your custom art replica against light and heat for many years.
  • The poster print (canvas material): Our poster print is a printed cotton canvas paper with a nice surface structure. Please keep in mind, that depending on the size of the poster we add a white margin of around 2-6 cm round about the work of art in order to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
  • The canvas print: The printed canvas, not to be confused with a canvas painting, is a digital replica applied directly on canvas. Further, a canvas makes a soft and pleasing appearance. The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which means that it is easy and straightforward to hang up your Canvas print without the help of any wall-mounts. Because of thata canvas print is suitable for any type of wall.
