English: The painting tells the story of how Queen Artemisia of Caria in Asia Minor supposedly ordered the building of the Mausolaeum at Halicarnassus in memory of her husband, Mausolus (352 B.C.). The Queen is said to have mixed Mausolus’ ashes with liquid, which she drank. She thus comes to symbolise a widow’s devotion. Vouet depicts the strongly idealised figures in a classical architectural setting, using Venetian colour and light. Form and content harmonise. Målningen visar hur drottning Artemisia av Karien i Mindre Asien låter bygga Mausoleet i Halikarnassos till minne av sin make, Mausollos (d. 352 f.Kr.). Det berättas att drottningen blandade Mausollos aska med vatten, som hon drack. Artemisia blir därför en symbol för änkans hängivenhet till sin makes minne. De starkt idealiserade figurerna avbildas med det venetianska måleriets ljus och färg i en antikiserande miljö. Form och innehåll harmonierar.

Which type of product do we present?

"Artemisia Building the Mausolaeum" is a piece of art by the male French painter Simon Vouet. The 1850 year old version of the artwork was made with the size Height: 161 cm (63,3 ″); Width: 139 cm (54,7 ″) Framed: Height: 150 cm (59 ″); Width: 173 cm (68,1 ″); Depth: 12 cm (4,7 ″) and was crafted with the technique oil on canvas. Besides this, the alignment is portrait and has an aspect ratio of 1 : 1.2, which means that the length is 20% shorter than the width. The painter Simon Vouet was an artist from France, whose art style can mainly be assigned to Baroque. The painter lived for a total of 59 years, born in the year 1590 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France and deceased in 1649 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France.
