The historical stage of enthronement of Pope Clement VIII in 1592 is located on St. Peter's Square in Rome. Pope Clement VIII, whose coat of arms appears above the right door, blesses the faithful "Urbi et Orbi" from the loggia, built in the fifteenth century to the atrium of the old basilica of Constantine.

The Flemish painter Louis Caulery certainly never witnessed the scene he chose to paint. Indeed, it is not sure that the artist came to Italy and some details in the representation of St. Peter are not totally faithful to reality. Thus, this table could very well be done in the workshop of Louis Caulery Antwerp from prints that were circulating throughout Europe.
