One of a set of panels (22.225.1–.6) which probably formed a set of decoration for a room. Each panel represents two months of the year, depicting astrological signs and occupations appropriate to the seasons. May and June are represented by a fête champêtre, above, and a shepherdess, below.

The painting May and June (part of a set illustrating the months of the year) was painted by the rococo painter Antoine Watteau. The masterpiece was made with the dimensions of Overall: 119 × 55 1/4 in (302,3 × 140,3 cm) and was painted with the technique oil on canvas; wood frame, painted yellow and gilded. It is in the the digital collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, New York, United States of America. Moreover, alignment of the digital reproduction is portrait and has a ratio of 1 : 2, which implies that the length is 50% shorter than the width. Antoine Watteau was a painter, whose style can mainly be assigned to Rococo. The Rococo painter lived for a total of 37 years and was born in the year 1684 in Valenciennes and died in the year 1721.
