George Inness’s rough, energetic brushstrokes evoke the raw beauty and potentially destructive power of the ocean in this dramatic seascape. He created it during a trip to Europe in the early 1870s. It was previously thought to depict Étretat, in Normandy, France, but scholars now believe that the image is of Porto d’Anzio, Italy. The sky is illuminated by patches of orange and white light, outlining the ships and distant town on the horizon. Careful study of the surface of the central rock in the foreground illustrates the artist’s impressive manipulation of paint: by employing shifts in texture and shading, he was able to emphasize distinctions between sun and shadow, wet and dry, and clean and algae-covered. Inness traveled to Europe to study landscape painting with the masters of the Barbizon School, who were known for a personal style that contrasted with the grandiose Hudson River School in America. The influence of this intimate approach is apparent in the painting of the rocks and spraying seawater.

Select the material of your choice

- Canvas: The UV printed canvas material stretched on a wood frame. Your canvas print of this masterpiece will let you turn your own art print into a large work of art as you know from art galleries. Hanging a canvas print: The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which means that it is quite simple to hang up the Canvas print without the support of extra wall-mounts. A canvas print is suitable for all types of walls.
- Aluminium dibond: An Aluminium Dibond print is a material with an impressive depth. The Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is the ideal introduction to art prints with aluminum. The bright & white parts of the original artpiece shine with a silky gloss but without glare. The colors of the print are luminous and bright, the fine details of the print are crisp and clear, and you can notice a matte appearance.
- Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): The print on acrylic glass, which is sometimes denoted as a plexiglass print, makes your chosen original work of art into beautiful home decoration. What is more, it makes a distinct alternative option to canvas and dibond art prints. Your work of art is printed with the help of modern UV printing machines. The major upside of an acrylic glass fine art copy is that contrasts plus artwork details become more exposed thanks to the precise tonal gradation.
- Poster (canvas material): Our poster print is a printed cotton canvas with a slightly rough surface structure, which resembles the original masterpiece. It is excellently appropriate for placing the art replica with a custom frame. Please keep in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster we add a white margin between 2-6 cm round about the print motif in order to facilitate the framing.
