Charles Coguin was the superior of the Benedictine monastery of Saint Sauveur d'Anchin, near Douai, from 1511 to 1547 and during his years there commissioned many works from Bellegambe. This portrait, which has been cut down at the top and bottom, was the left wing of a triptych.
