The work of art was created by the realist artist Arnold Böcklin in 1850. The more than 170 year old original measures the following size: 12 1/2 x 18 1/8 in (31,8 x 46 cm). Oil on canvas, several pieces joined was used by the Swiss artist as the medium of the artwork. Nowadays, the artwork is included in the art collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is one of the world's largest and finest art museums, which includes more than two million works of art spanning five thousand years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe.. Arnold Böcklin was a painter of Swiss nationality, whose style can mainly be attributed to Realism. The Realist artist was born in 1827 in Basel and passed away at the age of 74 in the year 1901 in Fiesole.
