Making a small bow, courtly and courteous, Dujardin introduces himself with this elegant self-portrait. Painted with flair and precision, the likeness has the air of a calling card, a demonstration of the artist’s skill. And, indeed, Dujardin received several commissions for portraits from Amsterdam’s elite.

The over 350 year-old artwork was made by Karel Dujardin in 1662. It forms part of the Rijksmuseum's digital collection. What is more, the alignment is portrait and has an aspect ratio of 3 : 4, which means that the length is 25% shorter than the width. The painter. printmaker Karel Dujardin was a European artist, whose artistic style can be classified as Baroque. The European painter was born in 1626 in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands and passed away at the age of 52 in the year 1678.
