The sketch should be dated to the very end of the 1750s, not too long before the artist left Venice for Madrid. It does not relate to a finished altarpiece. The bright light and coloring and the exotic costumes of the three kings are in marked contrast to the general sobriety of mood.

The Adoration of the Magi was painted by the rococo Italian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo in 1750. The over 270 year-old original creation has the size: 23 3/4 x 18 3/4 in (60,3 x 47,6 cm). Oil on canvas was used by the Italian artist as the technique for the artwork. Furthermore, this work of art can be viewed in in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Giovanni Battista Tiepolo was a painter, printmaker, whose artistic style was mainly Rococo. The Rococo artist was born in the year 1696 in Venice, Venezia province, Veneto, Italy and deceased at the age of 74 in 1770.
