Additional description by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (© - by The Metropolitan Museum of Art - www.metmuseum.org)

Painted in Sully's most succulent, painterly manner, "Musidora" is his only known nude. Inspired by James Thomson's poem Summer (1727), it is at once chaste and erotic, a combination that had great appeal for contemporary Victorian audiences. Sully depicts the modest Musidora at the moment her suitor, Damon, discovers her bathing in the forest. His gentlemanly conduct so impresses her that she pledges her love for him at once. The subject was painted by many artists of the day, but Sully's interpretation, in which the unwitting viewer plays the role of Damon, is compellingly unique.

Pick your material variant

For every art print we offer different sizes and materials. We allow yout to choose among the following variants:

  • Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating on top): An acrylic glass print, often referenced as a fine art print on plexiglass, will change your favorite artwork into stunning wall décor. What is more, the acrylic fine art print forms a distinct alternative to canvas or aluminium dibond fine art replicas.
  • Aluminium dibond: An Aluminium Dibond print is a print material with an impressive effect of depth - for a modern impression and a non-reflective surface structure. The Aluminium Dibond Print is your perfect start to the sophisticated world of reproductions with aluminum. The white & bright parts of the artpiece shine with a silk gloss, however without glare.
  • The canvas print: A printed canvas material applied on a wood frame. A canvas has a particular impression of three-dimensionality. A canvas of your favorite artpiece will allow you to transform your customized into a large size collection piece. Hanging a canvas print: Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, meaning that it is quite simple to hang your Canvas print without the help of any wall-mounts. Hence, a canvas print is suitable for all types of walls.
  • The poster print (canvas material): The poster is a UV printed cotton canvas with a slightly roughened structure on the surface. The printed poster is appropriate for placing the art replica in a special frame. Please note, that depending on the absolute size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin of around 2-6cm round about the print motif, which facilitates the framing.
