English: The Gospel of Luke recounts how some shepherds, informed by an angel of the birth of the Saviour, arrive at the manger in Bethlehem to joyfully adore the newborn. The scene shows the Holy Family and the shepherds, but also the legendary shepherdesses who brought gifts of eggs and milk. Jordaens’ encounter with Caravaggio’s Madonna of the Rosary in the Dominican church at Antwerp may have inspired the realism of his rustic figures, as well as strong natural lighting and deeply accented shadows. Lukasevangeliet berättar hur ängeln uppenbarar sig för herdarna med glädjebudskapet att Frälsaren är född. De beger sig till Betlehem för att beskåda Jesusbarnet. Utöver den heliga familjen och herdarna inkluderar scenen även herdinnor, som enligt traditionen medförde gåvor av ägg och mjölk. Figurernas vardagsnära realism och ljussättningen med bländande dagsljus och djupa skuggor inspirerades måhända av mötet med Caravaggios Rosenkransmadonna i Antwerpens dominikanerkyrka.

This 17th century artwork The Adoration of the Magi was created by the male painter Jacob Jordaens in 1618. The 400 years old original version of the artpiece measures the size: Height: 124 cm (48,8 ″); Width: 93 cm (36,6 ″) Framed: Height: 150 cm (59 ″); Width: 117 cm (46 ″); Depth: 10 cm (3,9 ″) and was crafted with the technique of oil. Nowadays, the piece of art is included in the digital art collection of Nationalmuseum Stockholm. In addition to that, the alignment of the digital reproduction is in portrait format with an image ratio of 3 : 4, meaning that the length is 25% shorter than the width. The painter Jacob Jordaens was a European artist from the Netherlands, whose art style can be attributed mainly to Baroque. The Dutch artist was born in 1593 and deceased at the age of 85 in 1678.
