A boatman led an embracing couple on a boat. The young woman raises her arm towards the "Medici Venus" placed on the bank of which the group is about to dock. Tall trees and an ancient building in ruins overlook the scene. We see mountains in the distance.

In 1790, Pierre-Antoine playwright Caron de Beaumarchais control decor consists of eight panels Hubert Robert to the large living room of his mansion in Paris. In 1802, the Urban Works condemn the mansion. The house was bought by the City of Paris in 1818 and its destruction was completed between 1826 and 1829. The panels of the decor are first reused in the Old Town Hall for the Seine prefect of the apartments are then stored in attics. In 1852, a new exhibition is realized in Marble gallery. The panels are saved from the fire that ravaged the City Hall in 1871 and go on restoration several years. They then return to the new City Hall but are no longer hooked together. Thus in 1902, the signs "Medici Venus" and "Farnese Hercules" entering the Petit Palais museum while the other six are still held at the City Hall.
