The allegory of Fortune is one of three panels that decorated the fireplace in the hotel lounge Jules Gouin, the Monceau plain. The fireplace is reproduced in the "Journal of the Old and Modern Art" December 1897, p 57; it was dismantled around 1927.

The more than 120 year old masterpiece Allegory of Fortune was made by the painter Luc-Olivier Merson in the year 1896. The version of the artpiece had the following size: Height: 90,5 cm, Width: 67 cm. Date and signature - Signed and dated lower right: "LVC-OLIVIER MERSON / MDCCCLXXXXVI" was the artpiece's original inscription.
