At the edge of the water, four young Parisian stroll in the company of a young man. The group stopped in the shade of a large tree. In the foreground, a woman seen from the back is sitting on a tree trunk on which she laid her straw hat. She looks toward the water where boats go sailing. Right, the young man takes the size the other young woman sitting in the grass. Behind them, two women standing the meet. One of them holding canes adorned with a basket of fleurs.La scene is surrounded by a decorative border, like tapestries. It shows the accessories of the country walk: up, hanging lanterns on the shores, reeds, flowers and foliage and down, a pair of oars and a fishing net.

In 1888, the City of Paris organizes a contest to decorate the gallery Lobau City Hall. Six artists including Clairin may participate. They had to perform a view of a Parisian landscape. Painting Clairin is accepted in 1891. In 1907, the four panels of landscapes made by Baldwin Berteaux Blanchon and Clairin are démarouflés, replaced by Picard décor and deposited at the Petit Palais.
