The topics dealt with the Anselm Feuerbach respectively, represent the decisive moment of an ancient story that focuses the drama of human existence in his characters. Therefore, he was not very popular in Vienna and felt also - together with Böcklin and Hans von Marees - in opposition to the prevailing artistic creation. In the "Orpheus and Eurydice" the theme of tragic love is related to the artist Destiny: Orpheus (he wears the lyre of Apollo, recognizable by the figure of Marsyas) does not succeed overcoming of fate or of loneliness, despite all art. The artpiece named Orpheus and Eurydice was painted by the painter Anselm Feuerbach. The over 150 year old original measures the size: 200 x 126,5 cm - frame size: 242 x 167 x 10 cm. Oil on canvas was applied by the artist as the medium of the piece of art. The masterpiece has the following text as inscrption: signed and dated lower left: A. Feuerbach. / R. 69th. Nowadays, the artwork is in the the digital art collection of Belvedere, which is one of Europe's most famous museums with three locations that blends the experience of architecture and art in a unique way. With courtesy of: © Belvedere, Vienna, inventory number: 1719 (public domain). Also, the work of art has the creditline: purchase from Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum Folkwang Hagen in 1916. The alignment is portrait with an image ratio of 2 : 3, which means that the length is 33% shorter than the width. The painter Anselm Feuerbach was an artist, whose style was mainly Historicism. The Historicist painter lived for 51 years, born in 1829 in Speyer and deceased in 1880 in Venice.
