During his time in the Asylum of Saint-Paul in Saint-Rémy, a small town near Arles, Vincent van Gogh made a number of copies of the work of artists he admired, which freed him from having to produce original compositions and allowed him to concentrate instead on interpretation. For this image, Van Gogh copied a wood engraving from Honoré Daumier’s Drinkers, a parody on the four ages of man. The exaggerated figure types capture Daumier’s characteristic humor and convey his sad message about the horrors of alcoholism. The greenish palette may well be an allusion to the notorious alcoholic drink absinthe.

Select a material variant

For every fine art print we offer a range of different materials & sizes. You can choose your your favorite size and material among the following options:

  • The canvas print: A canvas print is a printed canvas stretched on a wood frame. The advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight. This means, it is easy to hang up your Canvas print without the support of extra wall-mounts. That is why, canvas prints are suitable for all types of walls in your home.
  • Print on acrylic glass (with real glass coating): A glossy acrylic glass print, often described as a plexiglass print, will change your favorite original into beautiful décor. The work of art is manufactured with the help of modern UV direct print technology. This creates the effect of sharp and vivid colors. With an acrylic glass fine art print contrasts and color details become more exposed because of the fine gradation in the print.
  • The poster print (canvas material): A poster is a printed flat canvas paper with a slight structure on the surface. Please keep in mind, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin of around 2-6 cm around the painting to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
  • Metal print (aluminium dibond): This is a metal print made on aluminium dibond material with an impressive depth effect. A non-reflective surface make a fashionable impression. A direct Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is the perfect introduction to art reproductions with aluminum. For the Print On Aluminum Dibond, we print the chosen artwork on the surface of the white-primed aluminum composite. The white and bright components of the artpiece shine with a silk gloss but without any glare.
