General description by the museum (© - The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Louis N. Kenton (1865–1947) was Eakins's brother-in-law, having married Elizabeth Macdowell (1858–1953), sister of Eakins's wife Susan, in 1889. Elizabeth studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, exhibited professionally, and traveled widely. Her marriage to Kenton was stormy and apparently brief, and very little is known of it, or of Kenton. The title associated with this portrait, "The Thinker," was at one time based upon an inscription on the reverse that apparently was placed there by Susan Eakins. Beginning in 1900, the portrait was widely exhibited and much admired. An oil study for the portrait is in the Farnsworth Library and Art Museum in Rockland, Maine.

Choose your art print material

For every fine art print we offer different sizes & materials. We allow yout to choose among the following variants:

  • The poster print (canvas material): A poster print is a printed flat canvas paper with a granular texture on the surface. The poster print is designed for placing your art copy with a special frame. Please bear in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster print we add a white margin of approximately 2-6cm around the work of art, which facilitates the framing.
  • The acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): The print on acrylic glass, which is sometimes denoted as a UV print on plexiglass, makes your favorite original artwork into wonderful home decoration. Your work of art is being made with the help of modern UV print machines. The major benefit of an acrylic glass fine art print is that contrasts plus painting details will be more identifiable thanks to the delicate gradation in the print.
  • Canvas print: A printed canvas stretched on a wooden stretcher frame. A canvas makes a distinctive look of three dimensionality. Besides, printed canvas makes a attractive and appealing impression. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight. That means, it is easy to hang the Canvas print without any wall-mounts. A canvas print is suited for all types of walls.
  • Aluminium print (aluminium dibond): Aluminium Dibond prints are metal prints with a true effect of depth - for a modern look and non-reflective surface structure. For the Direct Aluminium Dibond option, we print your artwork onto the surface of the white-primed aluminum.
