Weenix lived in Rome for five years and painted Italianate landscapes, rather than local, Dutch subjects. The bright light, classical architecture, and exotic-looking garb of the figures all speak to this interest in foreign landscape.

The 370 year old version of the artwork has the size - Framed: 123,5 x 154 x 11,5 cm (48 5/8 x 60 5/8 x 4 1/2 in); Unframed: 98,8 x 129,2 cm (38 7/8 x 50 7/8 in) and was painted with the techinque oil on canvas. The original artwork's inscription is the following: signed lower right: Gio. Batta. Weenix: 1648". Moveover, this artwork belongs to the art collection of The Cleveland Museum of Art located in Cleveland, Ohio, United States of America. The alignment is in landscape format and has a side ratio of 4 : 3, meaning that the length is 33% longer than the width. Jan Baptist Weenix was a painter from the Netherlands, whose artistic style was primarily Baroque. The Baroque painter lived for 39 years, born in 1621 in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands and died in the year 1660.
