One of Remington’s favorite themes was the American soldier in the West, of whom he wrote, “His heroism is called duty, and it probably is.” Here, soldiers led by a scout in buckskin charge an unseen enemy. Although the painting was probably meant to refer to the war against the Plains Indians in the 1860s—Remington titled it "Cavalry in Sixties"—the uniforms and weapons date variously from the time of the Civil War through the 1870s. The artist was willing to depart from reality in other details as well. For example, the horses and riders are shown as a dynamic mass rather than in a straight horizontal line, which was the usual attack formation.

Select your art print material variant

The product dropdown menu provides you with the chance to select your individual material and size. Choose among the following product options now to match your preferences in size and material:

  • Canvas print: The printed canvas material stretched on a wood frame. A canvas print has the advantage of being low in weight, which means that it is easy and straightforward to hang up your Canvas print without extra wall-mounts. Therefore, a canvas print is suited for all kinds of walls.
  • Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): The print on acrylic glass, often referenced as a plexiglass print, will transform the artwork into brilliant décor. What is more, the acrylic glass fine art print makes a viable alternative option to dibond or canvas fine art replicas. The great advantage of an acrylic glass art print is that contrasts plus small color details will be more recognizeable due to the delicate tonal gradation.
  • Poster print on canvas material: The poster print is a printed flat canvas with a fine texture on the surface, that resembles the actual artwork. Please note, that depending on the size of the poster print we add a white margin of around 2-6cm around the work of art to facilitate the framing with a custom frame.
  • Aluminium dibond (metal print): This is a metal print manufactured on aluminium dibond with a true effect of depth - for a modern look and a non-reflective surface structure. A direct Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is the excellent introduction to art reproductions with aluminum.
