From one of the most powerful families in the kingdom, Henri II de Montmorency, godson of Henry IV, Admiral of France at 17, viceroy of New France, accumulated honors and offices at court; his intrigues with the king's brother, Gaston d'Orléans against the power of Richelieu, did so yet to condemn the crime of treason and was executed in Toulouse, October 30, 1632.
