Important information: We do the best we can to describe our products with as many details as possible and to display them visually in our shop. Still, the pigments of the print materials, as well as the imprint might vary to a certain extent from the presentation on your screen. Depending on your settings of your screen and the nature of the surface, colors might not be printed as exactly as the digital version shown here. Bearing in mind that the fine art prints are printed and processed by hand, there may as well be minor differences in the size and exact position of the motif.

What does the curator team of the Rijksmuseum write about the work of art made by Pieter Aertsen? (© Copyright - Rijksmuseum - Rijksmuseum)

At right, in this brothel, a young man does an egg dance to the music of a bagpiper. While dancing, he had to roll an egg within a chalk circle – without it breaking – and to cover it with a wooden bowl. This ‘pointless’ amusement, along with the dissolute behaviour of the other figures, served as a moral warning against debauchery.
