A Dutch city is the backdrop to this narrative that shows how a good Christian should help those in need. Christ stands among the spectators in almost every panel. The scenes give an impression of urban society around 1500. The work was badly damaged during the Iconoclasm of 1566, when Roman Catholic churches were vandalized by Protestants.

The classic art piece of art was made by the northern renaissance master Master of Alkmaar. Besides, this artwork forms part of the digital collection of Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Furthermore, alignment of the digital reproduction is portrait with an aspect ratio of 9 : 16, which means that the length is 45% shorter than the width. Master of Alkmaar was a male painter of Dutch nationality, whose style was mainly Northern Renaissance. The European artist lived for a total of 15 years and was born in 1500 and passed away in 1515.
