In the center of the picture is the preaching St. James, shown in pilgrim garb, decorated with shells. It is surrounded by a crowd of listeners, among whom there are also several children. This is a reference to the James Brotherhood, the most accepted the orphans. This painting is probably not a factory preparatory sketch for the high altar of the parish church Schwechater, but a non-self-created by Kremser Schmidt replica. The artwork measures the size: 67 x 37 cm and was produced with the technique of oil on canvas. The artpiece is in the the Belvedere's digital art collection. The creditline of the artpiece is: transfer from the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. - 1948 inventory in 1922. What is more, the alignment of the digital reproduction is portrait with a ratio of 1 : 2, meaning that the length is 50% shorter than the width. Martin Johann Schmidt was a male painter, etcher, whose artistic style was mainly Baroque. The European painter lived for 83 years and was born in 1718 in Grafenwörth, Lower Austria and deceased in the year 1801.
