During his London campaigns, Claude Monet painted the Houses of Parliament in the late afternoon and at sunset from a terrace at Saint Thomas’s Hospital. This viewpoint was close to that of the English artist J. M. W. Turner in his visionary paintings of the fire that had destroyed much of the old Parliament complex in 1834. In his response to the poetry of dusk and mist, however, Monet was actually inspired by the work of a more recent painter of the Thames, the American James McNeill Whistler.

In 1903 the male painter Claude Monet painted this masterpiece. The original was painted with the size 81,2 × 92,8 cm (32 × 36 9/16 in) and was crafted with the technique oil on canvas. Inscribed at lower right: Claude Monet is the artwork's inscription. Furthermore, the artwork is included in the Art Institute Chicago's collection, which is one of the world’s great art museums, housing a collection that spans centuries and the globe. Claude Monet was a painter from France, whose style was mainly Impressionism. The European artist lived for a total of 86 years - born in 1840 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France and died in the year 1926 in Giverny, Normandie, France.
