Compared with the often ill-natured-looking drunkards of his teacher Adriaen Brouwer, the country folk in the paintings by Adriaen van Ostade are more mildmannered. They drink and smoke, but the atmosphere is generally peaceful. The pair of skates lying on the ground inspired the painting’s old, anecdotal title.

The bright & white components of the original artwork shimmer with a silky gloss but without glare.

The engraver, artist, painter Adriaen van Ostade was a European artist from the Netherlands, whose style can primarily be classified as Baroque. The painter lived for a total of 75 years and was born in the year 1610 in Haarlem, North Holland, Netherlands and passed away in 1685 in Haarlem, North Holland, Netherlands.
