This "Crucifixion" was long considered draft 1775 datierendes side altar in the Sanctuary of Maria Taferl. In fact, however, a close connection with a 1797 dated, very similar in composition paintings of the Lower Austrian Provincial Museum. Feuchtmüller classifies the image of the Belvedere in his monograph for a Kremser Schmidt as school repetition. [Georg Lechner, 6/2009]

The classic art piece of art was made by Martin Johann Schmidt in the year 1797. The 220 years old masterpiece has the size: 54 x 38,5 cm - frame dimensions: 66 x 50 x 5,5 cm. Oil on canvas was applied by the painter as the medium of the piece of art. Moveover, this artpiece belongs to the collection of Belvedere, which is one of Europe's most famous museums with three locations that blends the experience of architecture and art in a unique way. The work of art, which is part of the public domain is being supplied with courtesy of © Belvedere, Vienna, inventory number: 4164. The creditline of the artpiece is: transfer from the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. - 1948 inventory in 1922. In addition to this, the alignment of the digital reproduction is in portrait format and has an aspect ratio of 1 : 1.4, which implies that the length is 29% shorter than the width. The painter, etcher Martin Johann Schmidt was a European artist, whose style was mainly Baroque. The Baroque artist was born in the year 1718 in Grafenwörth, Lower Austria and deceased at the age of 83 in the year 1801.
