eldest son of Francis of Lorraine, Holy Roman Emperor and Maria Theresa of Austria, he was elected emperor on the death of his father in 1765 and inherited the hereditary possessions of the Habsburgs to the death of his mother in 1780. He was the brother of Maria Antoinette.Ce table entered the museum as a portrait of the Duke of Enghien. In support of this identification, the ornaments worn by the young prince (including the Golden Fleece) were scraped.
