General description by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (© - The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Manet identified the source for this painting, the first of several religious scenes, in the inscription on the rock: the Gospel according to Saint John. However, in the passage cited, Christ’s tomb is empty except for two angels. After Manet sent the canvas to the 1864 Salon, he realized that he had made an even greater departure from the text, depicting Christ’s wound on the wrong side. Despite Charles Baudelaire’s warning that he would "give the malicious something to laugh at," the artist did not correct his mistake. Critics indeed denounced the picture, particularly the realism of Christ’s cadaverous body.

The colors are bright and luminous in the highest definition, the fine details of the print are clear and crisp, and you can perceive the matte appearance of the product. This direct print on Aluminum Dibond is the most popular entry-level product and is a sophisticated way to display art, since it puts 100% of the viewer’s focus on the replica of the artwork.

Canvas prints are relatively low in weight, which means that it is easy to hang your Canvas print without the use of any wall-mounts. A canvas print is suited for all kinds of walls.
  • Poster print (canvas material): The poster is a printed cotton canvas paper with a slightly roughened surface finish. Please note, that depending on the absolute size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin 2 - 6cm around the painting in order to facilitate the framing.
  • Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): The acrylic glass print, which is sometimes referenced as a an art print on plexiglass, transforms the original artwork into décor.
