This beautifully preserved little panel dates from late in Cima's career, probably from about 1510, and shows the master faithfully continuing a style originated by Giovanni Bellini in the 1480s. Indeed, Bellini's signature was added later, falsely, at the bottom.

The Italian artist was born in the year 1459 and passed away at the age of 59 in the year 1518.
