The waterfalls of Tivoli, a town east of Rome on the slopes of the Sabine hills, were among the most popular motifs for foreign painters in Italy. However rohden chose an unconventional neckline of his view. So he limited the presentation to the flood waters that tumble from a great height in several stages in the River Aniene. The natural spectacle is reproduced in strict low angle.
