This painting depicts an episode from the life of the painter. In Ostia could Krafft 1808 fire a cannon shot for fun on a fortress. the incident had Krafft time with pencil sketches (Inv. Nos. 9479a, 9479b). Many years later, he created a spontaneously acting oil paintings. To the left of the artist his friend Jagemann is shown.
