In an art world dominated by the Académie Royale, Dusmesnil made his career in the less prestigious, guild-bound Académie de Saint-Luc between 1751 and 1774. The theatrical lighting and stage-set effect of the present painting are typical of the artist’s genre scenes. Dumesnil follows Jean-Francois de Troy’s pioneered tableaux de mode (paintings of fashionable society), recording details of contemporary life that include the modish card game of quadrille and a black, probably enslaved, servant who tends the fire. Dumesnil possibly painted this work between 1756 and 1759, when he resided in Bordeaux, an active port in the French slave trade.

Your product product material choices
We offer a range of various materials and sizes for every product. That is why, we allow you to choose among the following options:
- Canvas: The printed canvas, which should not be mistaken with an artwork painted on a canvas, is a digital replica printed from an industrial printing machine. What is more, canvas print produces a nice, appealing effect. A printed canvas of your favorite artpiece will give you the unique chance to turn your very own art print into a large artwork. The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, meaning that it is easy and straightforward to hang up your Canvas print without any wall-mounts. A canvas print is suitable for all kinds of walls.
- Printed poster on canvas material: A poster print is a UV printed sheet of canvas paper with a fine surface finish. Please keep in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster print we add a white margin of something between 2-6cm around the work of art to facilitate the framing.
- Aluminium dibond (metal print): An Aluminium Dibond print is a material with a true depth - for a modern look and a non-reflective surface. For the Print On Aluminum Dibond, we print the selected work of art on the aluminium composite white-primed surface. The white & bright parts of the original artpiece shimmer with a silk gloss but without glare. The print on Aluminum Dibond is one of the most demanded entry-level products and is a contemporary way to display art reproductions, because it draws attention on the whole artwork.
- Printed acrylic glass (with real glass coating): An print on acrylic glass, which is often denoted as a UV print on plexiglass, will transform your favorite original into beautiful wall decoration and forms a distinct alternative option to canvas and aluminidum dibond fine art prints. The plexiglass protects your custom art print against light and heat for many years to come.
