Around an Ottoman monument opening on the city of Constantinople, called the booth of the Janissaries, several characters are represented in their daily activities. In the center, a team advances to the right, merchants sell their products presented in baskets, left, of fishermen embark. In the background, there are a mosque in the compact mass of houses in the city.

A great traveler, Felix Ziem stayed twice at Constantinople in June 1847 and for two months in 1856. The watercolors executed on the grounds will subsequently times in the workshop.
