This violent scene may represent Tamar being raped by her half-brother Amnon. According to II Samuel 13:1–22, Amnon, a son of David, fell in love with Tamar, and with a friend conceived of a ruse whereby he feigned illness and requested his half-sister attend him. When alone, he turned on her and raped her. Overcome with revulsion for what he had done, he then had her expelled from the bedchamber. Seeing what had happened, Tamar's brother Absalom had him slain. Despite the pervasive classicism of this scene, Le Sueur, a founding member of the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, never went to Rome.

The Rape of Tamar is a painting painted by the French painter Eustache Le Sueur in 1640. The original was painted with the size: 74 1/2 x 63 1/2 in (189,2 x 161,3 cm). Oil on canvas was applied by the French painter as the medium of the masterpiece. What is more, the artwork can be viewed in in the digital art collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Besides this, the alignment is portrait and has a ratio of 1 : 1.2, which implies that the length is 20% shorter than the width. The painter Eustache Le Sueur was a European artist from France, whose artistic style can be classified as Baroque. The Baroque artist lived for 39 years and was born in the year 1616 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France and deceased in the year 1655 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France.
