This more than 290 years old masterpiece was made by the artist Canaletto. The 290 years old version of the work of art measures the size of 18 1/2 × 30 5/8 in (47 × 77,8 cm) and was painted with the technique of oil on canvas. This artwork is in the the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is one of the world's largest and finest art museums, which includes more than two million works of art spanning five thousand years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe.. The painter Canaletto was a European artist from Italy, whose artistic style can primarily be classified as Baroque. The Italian artist lived for 71 years and was born in the year 1697 and passed away in the year 1768.

Today, one would be looking at the modern Accademia Bridge from this position on the canal. The bell tower in Campo della Carità, to the right, fell long ago, and the adjoining church and former convent, with a rebuilt entrance facade, now houses the Accademia picture gallery. Canaletto made many drawings from which he constructed such views in the studio. This one is from a series of twenty views that were probably painted for Joseph Smith, British consul in Venice from 1744 to 1760.
