Portrait of Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723), physicist at Delft. Kneepad, sitting at a desk on which a document is his appointment as a member of the Royal Society of London by Charles II. Further, also a globe, and an ink set; He holds a compass in hand.

In 1680 the male painter Jan Verkolje I made this artpiece. Nowadays, the artwork can be viewed in in the Rijksmuseum's art collection, which is the largest museum for Dutch art and history from the Middle Ages to the present day.
