This portrait represents a woman in her later middle years holding a handsome rosary made of coral with gold medals. Her identity remains unknown, but the richness and elegance of her black woolen gown with fur-trimmed cuffs and her coif of white sheer linen attests to her comfortable social standing. The prominence of her rosary is perhaps meant to suggest her personal devotion. In addition to a stylistic affinity to the work of this prominent Colognese painter, recent scholarship also points to the colorful patterned cloth background and the specific medals on the rosary as additional evidence the portrait was painted in Cologne.

Portrait of a Woman is a masterpiece made by the northern renaissance German artist Master of the Holy Kinship. The version of the piece of art was made with the size: Framed: 44 x 34,5 x 5,5 cm (17 5/16 x 13 9/16 x 2 3/16 in); Unframed: 30,3 x 21,3 cm (11 15/16 x 8 3/8 in). Oil on wood was applied by the German painter as the medium of the artpiece. Moveover, the piece of art belongs to the collection of The Cleveland Museum of Art. What is more, the alignment is in portrait format with a side ratio of 1 : 1.4, which means that the length is 29% shorter than the width. Master of the Holy Kinship was a painter, whose artistic style can be attributed mainly to Northern Renaissance. The European painter lived for a total of 38 years - born in 1480 and died in 1518.
