Sketch for the painting, dated 1853, exhibited at the Salon of 1868 and acquired by the Louvre in 1903 (aujourdh'hui the museum of the French Revolution in Vizille). The sketch was bought by Carolus-Duran for sale Dehodencq (Drouot, June 1, 1885, Nº63).
