The picture was produced in Bellini's workshop and follows a cartoon by the master. In the most distinguished example of the composition, in the National Gallery, London, the figures are shown with slight variations against a dark, neutral background instead of a landscape. The present picture has been attributed to Vincenzo Catena, but the resemblances to his work are superficial. The picture has been badly overcleaned. In consequence, the forms look schematic.

The work of art titled The Circumcision was painted by the male painter Giovanni Bellini in the year 1511. The original version was made with the size: 26 3/4 x 40 1/2 in (67,9 x 102,9 cm). Oil on wood was applied by the painter as the medium of the masterpiece. It can be viewed in in the The Metropolitan Museum of Art's digital collection in New York City, New York, United States of America. Pierpont Morgan, 1917. Further, the alignment is landscape and has a side ratio of 3 : 2, meaning that the length is 50% longer than the width. Giovanni Bellini was a male painter from Italy, whose art style was mainly Early Renaissance. The Early Renaissance painter lived for 57 years - born in the year 1459 in Venice, Venezia province, Veneto, Italy and died in the year 1516.
