This canvas, poor bill is certainly a copy of a painting by François Boucher, now lost. Boucher was interested repeatedly to the loves of Psyche, familiar theme in the eighteenth century, and many of his compositions can be in parallel with the canvas (see Burollet, Therese, 2004 p.65-67).
